Young people and coaches gathered for a Chemaf community sports camp.

KOLWEZI, DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC OF CONGO – August 2026 – Chemaf has brought together 500 children and young people from 17 villages surrounding its operations through a series of community multi-sports camps designed to promote healthy lifestyles, teamwork and youth development.

Held across three centers at Kabamba, Mukoma and Kyowelo, the annual program gives young people the opportunity to take part in football and other sporting activities while developing skills including teamwork, discipline, confidence and leadership.

The camps form part of Chemaf’s wider engagement with communities surrounding its operations and are designed to create opportunities for young people to participate in organized sport, build relationships with peers from neighboring villages and develop their sporting potential.

Creating Opportunities Through Sport

As part of the program, young people also had the opportunity to take part in football selection trials, providing a pathway for talented players to progress beyond the community camps.

Players identified through the selection process will have the opportunity to join the Chemaf Sports Club and represent their communities at the upcoming Lualaba Province Sports Meet.

By connecting grassroots participation with opportunities to compete at provincial level, Chemaf aims to encourage young people to develop their abilities while reinforcing the values of discipline, commitment and teamwork that organized sport can provide.

Across all three centers, the program this summer reached around 500 young people from 17 villages, reflecting Chemaf’s commitment to supporting youth development, health and community participation in the areas surrounding its operations.
